Ever noticed the difference your hair makes to the shape of your face? If not, it’s time to pay attention. To slim your face and sharpen your features, the key is all in the height of your ponytail.
Cosmopolitan put this theory to the test with 5 of their staffers and the results are pretty spectacular. The before and after images compare the women’s faces front on and profile, with the first images taken when they have their pony tail secured straight back and the second images when they have it secured high up.
Tying your hair straight back keeps the focus at eye level, but when you pull it up into a high ponytail, your hair aligns diagonally with your cheekbones and has the effect of ‘lifting’ your face.
The results on each of the women vary, but overall, their appearance is much fresher with the higher ponytail. They look more awake, the attention is drawn to their eyes, and their face looks overall better balanced.
Want to give it a go? Tying a high ponytail that doesn’t make you look like an Ariana Grande wannabe is all about the styling. Work with the natural texture of your hair, and with your personal style.
If your all about relaxed outfits and neutral makeup, you probably want to opt for a messier pony. Tease the hair out with salt spray before loosely securing with an elastic band. Muss it up a little and tong the bulk of the ponytail to give it a lived in look.
Want something a little more professional? If you want something a little sleeker for dressier occasions, spray your hair with a shine serum and brush thoroughly before carefully sweeping back into the elastic band. Pin down fly aways with a bobby pin and wrap a piece of hair around the elastic band to hide it. Voila.
