You’re trying to do the right thing by working out and hitting the gym, but this could be wreaking havoc on your skin. Ever noticed that after a particularly brutal workout you’re skin looks pretty average? Check out the mistakes your making and stop damaging your skin!
Are you a runner? Chances are you suffer from sagging skin. According to Elizabeth Hale, a professor of dermatology at NYU, running can cause a loss of volume from the cheeks and temple area over time. “The constant force causes micro-tears in collagen that compound all the time”, says Hale. To combat this, use moisturising products with active ingredients like retinol and collagen stimulating peptides.
Are you a swimmer? You might be seriously drying yourself out. The chlorine in lap pools can dry out your skin, which might mean that whilst you have no blemishes to speak of, your chances of fine lines and dull skin are right up there. Always rinse your face immediately after stepping out of the pool, and rebuild the protective layer of your skin with an ultra rich moisturising cream.
Are you a gym junkie? If you love doing weights or are a regular at group classes at the gym, you are probably prone to a few unwanted breakouts every now and then. This is because the shared equipment at gyms are a hotbed for bacteria, and you often transfer that bacteria to your face. Minimise your chances by avoiding touching your face during a workout, and wipe down shared equipment with an antibacterial wipe where possible.
