We know how tempting it is to take the plunge and switch up your hair color at the start of a new season, but make sure you have a serious think before going red.
Christina Aguilera debuted a fresh new red hair do at the Hillary Clinton fundraiser event last week and looked drop dead gorgeous. Long gone were her signature platinum locks, and her newly auburn waves made her look like Jessica Rabbit.
Whenever a major celeb like Xtina debuts a new look, we are always pretty tempted to follow suit. But red hair is most certainly not for everyone. If you’re determined to give it a go, make sure you consider all the factors.
The biggest thing to keep in mind when going red is that it is going to cost you time and money to keep looking great. Red fades faster than other hair colors because the red molecules are smaller than blonde, brown or black and are not absorbed as readily by the hair follicle. If you want to keep your red looking vibrant and fresh, be prepared for a trip to the salon once every three weeks.
The other thing to consider, is that red hair does not go with every thing. That pale blue sweater you love? Or that stunning fuchsia dress? They will be absolute no go’s with red hair. If you aren’t prepared to set aside some colors and opt for a more monochromatic wardrobe, red hair is probably not a good choice for you.
The last factor you should think about is what shade of red will suit you. There are literally hundreds of variations of redhead, from natural ginger to strawberry blonde to rich mahogany. Your skin tone and eye color will dictate which will look best on you. If you’re unsure, find a hairdresser who specializes in red heads and who can tell you which shade to go for.
