She recently revealed that she has given up eating dairy as well as having a completely organic pantry. “I keep hearing its great for your skin to give up dairy and the doctor we have been seeing has said we all have allergies to it,” she said in an interview uploaded to her app.
The idea that dairy is probably not great for you is not a new one. Nutritionists and allergy specialists have long suspected that there may be a link between dairy products and skin problems.
Although the link has not been confirmed, it is likely that most of us have some level of intolerance to dairy products. The reason? Hormones. Dietitian Maria Bella of Top Balance Nutrition says that because most the cows used to produce milk are pregnant, they pass on hormones into their milk.
Progesterone and insulin make their way into the milk and can cause increased levels of inflammation. This can show through acne, premature aging and skin conditions like psoriasis and eczema.
Kourtney shared that whilst she hasn’t completely cut dairy out of her and her kids diets, she thinks it is easier to do than most people think. “I found some bakeries that make chocolate chip cookies minus the dairy, so we’re not totally missing out.” And that’s the most important thing.
